性状：红棕色粉末。易溶于水成红色溶液，溶于乙醇红色带黄色荧光。对盐酸为蓝红色溶液，过多则呈紫色，大量过多则转为蓝色，对氢氧化钠则生成棕红色沉淀。对硫酸则为绿色溶液，稀释时先变成蓝色，渐变成紫色，最后变成红色。最大吸收波长530nm。有刺激性，商品中常混杂有甲基藏红T
用途：生化研究。氧化还原指示剂、生物染色、酸碱指示剂。点滴分析亚硝酸盐
